99 was the first year of the TC88 for the Road Kings.

Check out this bike here in the classifieds. As of 7-1-16 still available for 10K.

I just bought my 2010 Road King and would do it again in a heartbeat. My first Harley. I would say to go for an 09 and newer. Carrying capacity is better. Just my two cents. Take it for what it is. It's just my opinion. I did it because of having a 1350lb ish weight rating (bike, passenger, cargo).

I'd suggest a 2007 or later.

96" engine, 6 speeds, and the cam tensioner problem fixed.

Worth paying more for.

Even better, something with ABS.

The '15 has the 103HO motor which is a great stump puller right off the floor, but an older king can get to any performance level you want eventually. The Evo is a great motor and runs cooler by the way....

6 speed can be added too.

Frame improvements and ABS are nice, but not essential in my book. Find the one that speaks to you. New or old I think you'll be happy once you make it yours.

Nice bike. All that matters is that you like it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. At the end of the it is yours, not theirs. Couple of mods and that thing will go as good as the 103's.

So many choices with a Road King. Look around and find one that screams take me home.

Now that you have decided on a Road King you have to choose which model. Classic, Standard or if you want a twin cam a Custom.

Lots of parts laying in people's garages that are collecting dust that fit all the FLHs. Check Craig's list daily.

I really appreciate all the advice, guys. I'm getting serious about buying one, so I'll be posting the results here - hopefully sometime in the next few weeks.

One thing I do like about Harleys over the metrics that I've been riding (but which could get expensive) - you never look at an accessory or part and wonder, "Gee, I wonder if they make that to fit my bike?" Everything is made to fit H-D's.

yes the healthy aftermarket keeps parts and acc inexpensive...one of the reasons I sold my BMW is that everything was triple the price of equivalent HD part- oil filters etc.

Enjoy your search.
