There's probably a difference in the factory flash between bikes with/without tourpaks & rear speakers. Road Glide Ultras, Ultra Classics, and TriGlides are pre-wired including coax, for CB's. Street Glides and Road Glides don't have the coax (or rear speakers), and therefore may need a radio flash.
Possible but the module install instructions say a flash is required and does not differentiate between bikes

1.) Harley would come out with an "Update" that would switch the Odometer Reset Switch with the PTT function on the Right Squelch/PTT Lever Joy Stick. (Requires CAN Bus address reasignments) Kind of tough to keep your hand sready on the Throttle and press the PTT Switch at the same time. It is difficult to believe anyone at Harley who actually rides bikes tried this out before it hit the production line.
While I don't have an issue with the PTT location your suggestion would be a much better location. If someone could crack the code it would not be too hard to reassign function

2.) Harley would replace the CB Coax with a true No Ground Plane Coax and an Antennae that can be tuned (SWR). Then it might be able transmit more than 1 or 2 miles (if you're lucky). There IS a reason Harley calls it a "Bike-to-Bike" system and does not call it a CB Radio. Duh!

I am building a custom harness for my detachable tour pak with lights and am doing just this. The same mount used on the AM/FM antenna side can be used to get rid of the CB ground plane and terminal coax connector. I'll be running coax from the antenna mount to the motorola connector under the seat. Hopefully it will be a better setup.
