Went for a ride last night. As I was sitting at a light, I looked down and saw that I had what looked like a small piece of string on my tank. So I went to brush it off and it didnt move. So when I got home, I look at it and it is a crack in the paint. Its behind the fairing, no marks from anything hitting it either. Nothing close to the bike in the garage and its just below the grip. Any ideas? From one side to the other, its like 1/2" long.
What i thought but it "feels" like it is sticking out. Know what I mean? It is hard to see in the pic.
The bike sits between my car and the wifes. She walks past it when she gets it the passenger side of the car.
She wouldn't scratch it and not tell me right??
I'm sorry to say, that looks like a classic scratch deep into the thin clear coat. You would feel that if you ran your finger or fingernail over it. Nothing will remove something like that if its through the clear as I suspect it is based on what I see in the pictures. If its not through the clear, you might be able to wet sand it out. I am truly sorry but I'm not optimistic on that one! I feel your pain.
For those that question either the voracity of the crack claim, or the OP's judgement...is it possible that if the tin wasn't prepped properly that the paint in that specific spot would lift and then crack on the surface? I don't know what caused what I've seen in the past, but I have seen what looked like a crack in Harley paint with no dent. Haven't seen it many times, but I have seen what looked like a crack in the past.
I can't tell by looking at the picture whether it's one or the other, but taking at face value what the OP thinks it is, is it possible? I personally dunno much about painting or prepping for paint to know if it's possible for it to crack.

Sure she would, if she didn't realize she had done it.
It's a scratch dude. It happens.
buy some harley clear coat touch up. clean it good and try filling the scratch, alittle goes along way here. and then use some scratch X on it. maybe even some very light sanding with 600 or 1000. go slow here and take your time it can be done with good results.
