I've got a 2003 flht and I've started to notice a slight whining noise, I thought at first it was my brakes or wheel bearing but I've noticed that it stops when i let off the throttle. the bike is tougher shifting and harder to get into neutral than it used to be not sure if it could be related.....my first thought is the main drive bearing, any ideas?
Whining noise? That is just the Mrs. when my honey-do list gets too long. Advice. Go for a long ride. Stop and have a festive beverage. Come home on time to take her to dinner. Whining should subside.
Check fluid levels. Is whining in all gears? Try to determine how much load is causing the noise. Bearing? Possible. Go through the logical progreesion.

fluids are good, it does whine in all gears and doesn't matter if I give it just a little throttle or a lot the whine is the same....when I'm stopped and rev it up or let it idle it doesn't do it. only seems to be when moving
First thing is to check the primary chain tension, eliminate that first. Incorrectly adjusted primary chain would causes issue changing gear, finding neutral and whine.
First thing I would look at would be the tension on your primary chain, inside the primary case on the left side.
Second thing that might be whining might be the final drive bearing in the transmission. This is the bearing behind the pulley that drives the belt that goes to the rear wheel.
I hope it is the first but the second thing is pretty common especially since people started putting really heavy fluids in their transmissions.
