Any one get caught in the grocery store parking lot trying to stuff to many grocery's in the tour pack. Overflow went into saddlebag, with the lid open. 30 mph, one mile.
You do look like a dork. I've failed to latch mine properly, it flipped open and I couldn't figure out why people were honking and pointing at me. It's happened several times and for many miles.
This weekend, I was at a light and got honked at. Finally realized they were pointing at my saddlebag. Seems one of the catches did not clip into the receiver. One catch is not enough to hold the lid down and it blew open going down the road..... Yes, I felt like an idiot.
Not just Harleys though, I followed a Victory for two hours with his lid open. It was a two lane highway and I couldn't find a spot to pull up and warn him.
I have bought more groceries than my hard bag could handle. Had to leave the top open for a couple miles. That is when I miss the RKC leather saddle bags. They hold a 3rd more than the hard bags. Two gallons of milk fit easily in the classic bags; just one barely fits in the hard bags.
Back when I had the old "three strap" leather bags, I'd sometimes forget and ride down the road with one lid waving in the breeze.
Nowadays I run the old style "bubble bags". They have a single latch in the front. Forget that and you won't ignore it. You'll be going down the road with the lid flying on the end of its tether, making an awful racket.
