Default 04 EG classic???

Hi, looking to buy a dresser --- been a Sporter & Superglide guy & now my wife claims she can't take the vibes & wind anymore --- we're mid 50's. Anyway ... Looking at a 04 carbed & 05 injected Elecrtra Glide Classics. My 08 SG is injected but not afraid of carbs. Other than fuel delivery these are the same correct?? Any problems stand out with the later 88's? Or should I just stick with the 96 motors? Btw both are about $9k and around 20,000 miles. I want to stay under 12 grand cuz I'm keeping the Superglide for me--- deal I made with the wife & don't want to take out a loan!! Thanks in advance.

I have been seeing 09 baggers for under 12k. With the 88's just watch out for the cam chain tensioners. 20k miles they might not of been changed yet and it will cost anywhere from 300-$1000 to have done depending on who does it.

I would definitely go for the 05 injected. I have a 2005 Ultra with 85,000 miles on it and have been very satisfied with it.

I would take an 88 over a 96 anyday. I am also a carb guy as well. Mainly for ease of tuning when changing pipes etc.
just my humble opinion

Fuel Injection is the best. Carbs are easy to tune but FI allows you to tune throughout the RPM range. Starts easier runs better. 05 is a good year.

early 05 had either a service bulletin or soft recall for leaky valve seals. look for signs of oil burning. but yeas 04-05 same bike.

Not be dumb but-- what would the later serial numbers be for the later models? I take it the 06's had this problem corrected?

I would take the EFI '05. I think the later 88's are very nice, and the EFI works great.
