I forgot, this is Harley we're talking about. Some things never change.
Um - Excuse me? Not everyone on this forum has a new Harley. If you're not interested in this thread there are others that may be more relevant for you.

IMHO...

There is a difference between info for an old bike and info in an old thread....

I believe old threads are good for researching a topic of interest.....

I don't like answering an old thread/question, or someone resurrecting an old thread.

I believe an old, dead thread should be left alone, and a new thread started if additional info is to be added or asked for...

By starting a new thread for any additional info, people don't have to read through old, and possibly outdated information on the topic .... It also keeps the thread shorter, easier to follow, and more pertinent to the additional info on an old topic...

Good point - thank you for your insight. I was always told to search for and use an existing thread because it would reduce the amount of data on the server. This is not exactly user friendly.

This is just my opinion of course...

Searching is always good... I often find my answer and don't need to make a post. But if you find some info that needs clarification, I believe a new post is better than tagging onto, and resurrecting, an old thread..

For example, I'll use this thread to show why I think a new post is better....

"Blown Alcohol" resurrected a 3 yr old thread for further info on fender strips and seat fitment on a CVO bike...

I missed the dates of the posts, read through a bunch of old posts, and gave some additional info on a 3 year old comment....

Because a new thread asking specifically about the fender trim strips and CVO seat fitment wasn't started, I read a bunch of old stuff and added info to a question that was not the reason why the thread was resurrected. My added info will not help "Blown Alcohol" nor will it be seen by the guy who posted a comment 3 years ago. I wasted a bunch of time, trying to help, all for naught....

That's why I don't like people resurrecting a dead thread for further info....

Maybe u should always look at the dates before u read and post. So @$%^$# like you do not get pissed off.
If the question gets answered maybe it will help someone down the road.
I found that thread searching for answers.
Yeah, I voted for Trump too. Lol

You're right, I should have read the dates... that's on me...

I don't like wasting my time, so I said, "I hate being sucked into an old thread". I wasn't pissed off, I was just stating why I think it's better to start a new thread, then resurrect an old one...

Why you taking it so personal and feel you need to resort to name calling....? ("So @$%^$# like you do not get pissed off.")

I used this thread as an example... I was trying to make a point, you just happened to be the one who resurrected this thread. I didn't feel the need to call you any names, or say you did anything wrong, I was just clarifying my viewpoint....

Since you brought it up, your question would have a better chance of getting answered in a new thread labelled, "CVO fender strips" , "a #52164-10 seat on a 2013 CVO Ultra", or both.... your question, might not even be noticed, being piggybacked onto this thread...

I hope you find your answer...

Well I see your point. But I'm not sure you see mine, and excuse me if I don't. But it has nothing to do with whether or not you have an older bike or a newer model. THAT isn't the point.
The point is the thread is 6 YEARS OLD! You have a 2007 model...that's 13 years old! Nothing wrong with that at all. But do you really want to read about seat options in a thread from 6 years back that most likely don't even apply anymore? I don't.

If you need up to date info on anything, POST IT IN A NEW THREAD! One that all of us will enjoy reading for CURRENT information.

I can't believe I'm even having to explain this to you.

You are right about not being user friendly. And you did right by trying to follow and do what you are being told..about reducing the data on the server. But the message to you was wrong, not you.
The way to reduce data on the server is to ELIMINATE 6 year old THREADS!!! They have no reason to be on the server anymore at all. So don't beat yourself up. But also, don't help the problem by resurrecting 6 year old threads either.
