Most Manufactures only have to make replacement parts for ten years, be it car truck or motorcycle.
I have a pickup truck, made in 1996. (you know the brand, it's the top seller) I had it serviced at a
local dealer most of the time, but not all the time. Now they don't work on 20 year old pickup trucks.
Independent service dealer will get my money now, Just Saying.

Took my 97 Springer into Milwaukee Harley for a front end (springer) overhaul. They were happy to do the work and at a reasonable price. Ok....maybe not super happy. They said getting the neck bearings out was a motherfxxxer (their words) and took twice the time. And they still charged me the quoted price.

Thumbs up. They get all my work now.

Could be the techs today that are willing to get their experience at a dealership service dept. are fresh out of school and where told this is what a carb looks like and not taught how to fix or diagnose a fuel system that is fed by gravity. Find an indy for the older bikes, there are enough RUBS to keep dealerships in business.

All dealers are not created equal.............Regardless of what the MOCO pushes. I have three dealers within 50 miles of my house, two of them will work on most anything you bring in. One will whine about it but they'll do it and the other will work on no matter how old it is.

Was gonna be outta town for a week on business so I dropped my 21 year pick up off for some work at the local GM dealer.........They had no complaints and it was good as new when I picked it up a week later. I sold my mom a '66 Mustang convertible several years ago, the local Ford dealer had no qualms doing work to it.

So just because one dealer is that way doesn't mean they're all like that. I believe the ones that want your business will work with you, no matter the age of what you bring in.

Yep and the Metrics are even worse. No technical training for older bikes and few longterm techs still around. Nobody to work on them fewer parts available. Add to that the older bikes tend to sit at the dealer for a long time waiting for parts, payment, authorization and in some cases never picked up after repair. The old bike issue has been around a long time, even worse in the metric market.

I am actually in Union, about 10 minutes from Newark airport. Where in South Jersey? I took my jeep to Toms River for locker install and regear so I am willing to drive a bit for a good Indy. Besides, the uhaul trailer is only $16 a day

Nah, this Indy is in Erial, NJ. Near Blackwood.
It would be almost a 2hr ride for you.
It's closer to Philly than the south Jersey shore.

My local dealer Richardson's Harley-Davidson, in Tasmania would work on my 99 Heritage Softail, order in parts in from USA also have NOS locally. I believe the workshop doing the work is due to a lower Harley ownership in Tasmania, not sure what the dealers do on Mainland Australia
