Default A Thought --- UPDATE

I just flipped 10K miles on my '07 RKC and I have just not been happy with the performance of the engine. This is my fourth Harley after owning Honda's. I like the feel and sound of my bikes when I'm cruising at around 2,000 RPM's, but this bike with the TC96 will just not do it. It obviously labors at anything below about 2,500 RPM's, especially in the taller gears. Yesterday I'm doing 50-55 in 5th gear and the bike isn't lugging, but I can tell it's not comfortable there either. I had a thought that the stroke is too long and that maybe boring out the cylinder to 103" will help the bike in the lower RPM's. Any opinions?

Has anyone done a 103 upgrade on an '07 and did it help? Did you change the cams or heads?

I'd swap to 3:37 primary gearing.

A longer rod should produce more torque, with all other things equal. Do you have the stage I done?

Yes, I installed SE air cleaner with PCIII and Rush slip ons at about 3K miles. That helped a little and reduced engine heat, but not in the lower RPM's.

I don't get it. Why ride at 2000 RPM's?They just don't like it. Bring it upa bit andall will be good. You'll just have to get used to it. It's the nature of the beast!

I found the same situation with my 07 RK after owning Honda shadows. It doesn't have a tack, but with the RK I find that the upshifting points need to beabout 10mph higher than the manual indicates. I also agree that cruising at 2000 rpms is on the low side.

Ditto. This beast doesn't like to run at low rpms. She's a lot happier running than cantering.

I have a 07 RKC with the 103 kit in it. When I am running at 50-55 I am usually in 4th gear. Your RKC is not going to run like a Honda. The dealer that put the 103 in said that you will notice the difference at the top end not the bottom. I love my RKC and would not ride anything else......

I'd swap to 3:37 primary gearing.
Dealership said HD does not yet have parts to switch to 3.37 primary gearing for the TC96. Said they can do it on '06 and earlier but not '07.

They suggested Drag Specialties. Anyone have any other recommendations?
