The wife and I were out goofing off yesterday and rode into the dealer. Much excitement in the air there as they were rolling out the 17's. I was offered a test ride and on a Road Glide and jumped on it. Just like everyone else, the most noticeable improvements were the starter, no clunk in first, very smooth shifting and quicker acceleration. The suspension was smooth but I would need to ride it more to really assess it.
Overall I was quite impressed and considering trading my 15 FLHTKL. I'm really wanting a RG and after the test ride, my desire to have one went up. I like my current bike but am still working out the ergonomics in it. The stock seat sucks and leaves me feeling pretty sore after a days ride, the bike doesn't feel as nimble as I'd like it to be. I would also consider trading for a 16 FLTRXS if I could get a good deal. I'm expecting a call this morning with an offer on my current, if it's meant to be, I'll post pics after the deal.
You won't regret either bike. Switched from a Street Glide to a raid glide ultra last summer. Traded the 11 RGU in 11 months later on a 16 RGS. You'll likely get a great deal on a 16.
I stopped in yesterday just to look. The salesman was kind enough to start a 2016 and 2017 literally side by side. Noticeable difference in cadence and smoothness at idle. Not much difference in exhaust note. I was able to hear the compensator "whine" when revving the engine on the 17.
I was offered a test ride, but was in work clothes, so declined. Maybe I'll go back and give it a go, maybe not... I'm afraid if I like it too much more than my '16, I'll do something foolish.
I stopped into my dealership, sign outside stating "17's are HERE!!!" Inside, asked.. None are available to be seen, mainly due to the fact that they have 75 16's, and they are NOT bringing out the new ones until they 'Have Room'.. BS!!
