Posted a few weeks ago about the rear brakes making a howling/screeching type noise on my 14 sgs with 10k miles. Finally got time to take a look at it today. Pulled the rear caliper, bc the noise was definitely coming from the rear. Cleaned the pads with brake cleaner and applied disk quiet to the back of the pads. So far, after a short ride, brakes are quiet as a mouse
You sprayed brake cleaner on your break pads?
A flat file would have sufficed and the cleaner and a clean rag to the rotor(s)
I would watch how your pads are holding up...then again maybe I missed something on what you actually experienced.

Now I'm confused. What's wrong with spraying brake cleaner on brake pads to clean all the filthy brake dust off them? Isn't that what brake cleaner is intended for?

Nothing wrong with using that. Yes that is what its designed for. Ive seen it used to clean 16" brake shoes that had a leaky wheel seal, shoes went on to last 50-60K miles.
