Default Cam change advise

I have a 2003 SE Road King and the cam tensioners are done for. Since my bike is broken and I need to replace parts, I might as well replace them with higher performance parts.

This is what I'm running.
SE 103"
SE 6 speed transmission
Rinehard true duals
D&M power flow air cleaner
Zippers Thunder Max auto tune

This is what I'm looking at.
S&S tc3 oil pump and cam plate
S&S adjustable pushrods
ported and polished heads and changing the intake/exhaust valve and lift springs
high compression pistons
S&S easy start gear drive cams

I'm not sure if I want to go with the .585 or the .625. What do you guys think?

The 585 will make it fly, but it will be in the higher rpm range. If that is what you want thats cool. The 625 is too much for the street I think, you'll never get into it. You won't enjoy riding it. The easy start cams are the bomb I had them and loved them.

.585 for street-ability.

The reason I'm considering the .625 is S&S's tech info says there on from 3000- 6000 rpm and 3500-6000 for the 585.
Dealing with cams is very new to me. Why wait the extra 500 rpm?

I'm no expert, but before you decide, take a look at your normal operating rpm. How often do you get in the 4,5, or 6K range? If you're like most riders on a 900 pound touring bike, 90% or more of your time will be spent at 3500k or less. I see above 4k some, but it's typically in first or second gear under hard acceleration. I'm not knocking your cam choices, just saying you might be happier with one more suited to every day use.

Tensioners are done?
Does that mean they let go and are kapoot or just normal wear and tare and it is time to replace them?

The new camplate/and hydrolic tensioners/oil pump along with a cam change with cam chosen for rpm range when riding are easy to choose.

Cam and Ported heads is where I get confused , so I just spend the money making the Black bike look like it is going faster.

Saves money for fuel and tires and other riding essentials

You have not mentioned how many miles on your bike and that may or may not come into play.

Side note, do you have the supplemental parts book for the SE RoadKing?

This is a build I did years ago on a 2003 FLHRSEi, set compression to 10:1, S&S 570s, SEAC and Supertrapp. He's still diggin it.

I have a 585 in my S&S 107" and the torque curve is flat, just marvellous to ride with. We have sponsors in the Tech Engine section who can port your heads and ensure you have the most suitable cam to get the best out of your tune. I recommend you pop over there and call one or two of them.

I was once told when picking between two cams, pick the smaller one.

......and then buy one even small than that one!
Choosing a cam with a power band to the right is something that I did before and regretted it so much I got rid of the bike and find a stock 103HO is more to my "sub 4500 rpm" riding style.
