Why don't you see if you can get a killer deal on a 2016?
That way you are getting the last year of the bike and all of the bugs are worked out already!
Just a thought!
I have been riding Harleys exclusively since 1977 and I currently have two Harleys that I really like. ..... I understand the "tough call" part, that's why I kept my '03 Heritage when I bought my '12 Limited...
Good luck with your decision....
PS- I'm really liking all that I'm reading on the new M8 bikes, I fully expect that after the 2018 release (to see if in fact a new frame is coming) I will have 3 Harleys that I really like...
I was very impressed with the '17 Ultra Limited I took for a ride. It's what got the juices bubbling about this upgrade to begin with. Then last Thur my primary bearing went and I started going... Hmmm Maybe it's just time. LOL
Keep it AND buy a new one...! That I hadn't thought of. But I seriously would have no need for two Ultra's. :-) I've thought of an Ultra and Breakout!

It's not a bad thought. I actually did talk to a couple guys at the shop that have a 15 or 16 both had a stage 1 and both rode the '17... They said HP\Torque on the 103 with a stage one are pretty comparable to the 17, but hands down the 17 for being so smooth. But honestly I hadn't ever looked to see if they had any good deals on the '16s sitting there. I'll have to check it out just to see.
I'd wait a year. Get an '18 maybe. When the bugs (at least some of them) are worked out, and there are a lot more aftermarket options available.
You sound like my wife... No just kidding.. LOL, but seriously. That is exactly what she said. She said wait till '18, it's an Anniversary year. You can see what others have liked, bugs worked out... etc... That is her opinion exactly...
If you don't trust your bike anymore then it's a no brainer in my book. You've already said that money isn't an issue.
It's a touring bike. There's nothing worse than going out and wondering if you're going to make it home.
If I was in your shoes I'd buy it and load it with warranty but I'm not you. I have a paid for bike and would be looking at a big payment to get a new one so I just ride on.
Good luck with your decision.
Ditto. Worrying whether or not you're going to break down takes all the fun out of it. I've also had vehicles that left me stranded one too many times, and I just had to get rid of them.
thanks for all the feedback. I do appreciate it! I think what I am leaning towards is hanging tight till spring. With winter fast approaching here in WI my bike will be put away soon anyway. I don't have anymore trips planned this year. I think I will just hang tight and see what kind of deal I can find between now and April of '17. But I'm about 99% sure I'll be upgrading in the near future. I don't think there will be a huge hit on trade value of mine now and spring of next year.
The quieter voice of reason emanates from my right shoulder and the adventurous, impetuous voice emanates from the left.
As life would have it I'm part deaf in my right ear.
So buy a new one and have all the fun owning and personalising a new bike can bring (any bits left over from your '09 can find a new and loving home with me btw)
Cheers, Wolfie

lol, the two voices that is for sure what it is. I did shoot the sales guy I've been in touch with an email last night. I wanted a couple things answered. I still haven't got my bike back yet. Supposed to be done today. Compensator, Inner Primary bearing\race. Not sure what the bill will be but the SE compensator alone I believe is $400+?? It should be a pretty hefty bill.
