a couple others have stated, newer model year = more resale value (usually)
A few years ago nobody wanted a '08 because the '09 was a newer design. Same with the years MoCo went with bigger motors...
Personally I always want to save the $$ but the 17 seems to have it going on
Whichever you choose, you will ride and enjoy so have some fun
Well finally at the point of where my dealer is bringing in a 2017 rgu and 2017 special. They tried to get me on a 16 but it wasnt as good of a "deal" to got 16 over 17. So now i just have to decide on a special or ultra. All in all its been a pleasant experience at all dealerships ive been to.
Any input between the ultra and special?
My main concern is heat with lowers, especially in the summer.
What about stock, stage 1 with harley street tune, or go big with 114?
Thanks
While I'm sure you'd enjoy either one, the whole argument about 1st year only holds so much water. I bought an '08 FLHT, against the advice of some others. I now have about 108,000 miles on it, mostly uneventful miles. It IS a machine, after all. I've never had a problem getting any parts for it, although I've never needed too much. Usual stuff, mostly. Overall, bike has been quite dependable, so a "new" model, or design, does not always mean "Bad". Just my thoughts.

As an add to your comments, There are plenty of issues with the tried and proven, couple of guys with 16's on this forum right now with oil consumption issues., Maybe they should have waited for a '17 LOL
My vote is for 17 Ultra. I have ridden 16 and 17 SGS back to back. 17 has way better ride and performance in my opinion. And, with Ultra you can also convert to removable tour pack.

I got a very good deal on a '16... If I hadn't, and was still going to move on a new bike I too would very likely have gone '17.
Ultra v Special
I don't recall all the differences, I think the exhaust is one, true duals v 2-1-2. If you're replacing the exhaust no biggie I guess.
The lowers on the Ultra house the radiator and fans(?)... the Ultra is dual cooled, and has that Engine Idle Temp bla bla thingy that lets you shut down the rear cylinder if stuck in traffic.
Oh and the tour pack standard on the ultra.
Not to be a naysayer, but let's look ahead 3 years. Resale/trade in value will suck for the used TC market, particularly if the M8 pans out which will be apparent by then. The market will be saturated with them as everyone makes the jump to the M8. That said, if your were ready to buy like you are now a year ago, you would have bought TC without hesitation. After all, RG's are top of the line. It's your money.

Nope...both 2-1-2...Harleys don't come with True Duals...
