I bought a retractable for my 11 RGU and it broke within one year.. Installed the original cable and wrapped some 'picture hanging wire around the entire length, secured at each end'. Seems to work just fine...

The split loom keeps the support inside the tourpak when the lid is closed.
I used a length of chain like the stuff used to hang floruesc...fluroscen...fluors...light fixtures with 8' tubes in 'em. Bolted one end to the nut on the lid that holds on the passenger back rest. Drilled a small hole in the tour pack and through the liner next to the fasteners for the stock retractable tether. Found a SS machine screw similar to those in the retractable thingy and ran in through the hole. Fastened the other end of the chain to it inside. There is just enough slack in the chain that it doesn't bear any weight, but will catch the lid when/if the tether breaks.

I've got one. I swear by it.
Do you have any pics with the lid open? I want this, but I currently have a mirror installed in the lid and I just worry the forward angle is to much and will eliminate the use of the mirror.

Yours looks just like the Ultra Brace eglidegoodies.com sells? How much would you sell your setup for?

Yeah, none of them really show it from the side of the bike with it open or one with the lid open and from far enough away to get an idea.
