M8 Heat
I bet...judging by the way my fans kick on in my Limited...that this motor couldnt be ran without some kind of cooling other than air like the TC could. Wonder how they going to do it on the softies. Oil I would guess like the do the ones that arent Twin Cooled
I agree. In another thread I stated in my opinion the M8 was designed so hot that the cooling oil was a necessity not a function of being modern. And when Steve Cole posted a ccp of 230 ish it was obvious the heat was an issue. The EMTIS also kicks in real early I hear compared to the TC so I hear.
If i am not mistaken i saw an advertisement flyer in something i just ordered from Ultracool showing they already have an oil cooler with elec cooling fans (for motor oil only) that will fit the M8/2017models that can reduce engine oil temp up to as much as 50 deg in summer heat.
When i went to their site it only showed oil coolers thru 2016 ,maybe they didnt update website yet, just not sure either way.
But if UC doesnt have one ready for M8/2017's yet eventually someone will have an oil cooler with elec cooling fans avail which are great at reducing oil & engine temp esp when needed most in slow moving traffic & or sitting still at stop lights where a std oil cooler with no elec cooling fans is just about useless due to lack of airflow.
When sitting still at a stoplight or when in slow moving traffic an Oil cooler without elec cooling fans is at a significant disadvantage / not working efficiently (WHEN NEEDED MOST!) till you get up to a decent road speed again where ample airflow is passing thru the oil cooler again.
And dont forget the engine oil also removes heat from the motor too so installing an oil cooler with elec cooling fans does in fact significantly reduce oil & engine temp esp in summer heat eps when the cooling fan kick on in traffic .
I know this is the case 1st hand because i installed an UC oil cooler with elec cooling fans on my 09 air cooled FLHTCU which significantly reduced oil & engine temp esp in summer resulting in multiple improvements in engine perf & overall rider comfort on my bike.
So point is when avail an oil cooler with thermostatically controlled elec cooling fans has already proven to in fact reduce oil & engine heat which is what your looking for and should be considered.
Maybe Wards cooling fans will come out with a setup for the new M8's and if so i know they work well in tandem with an oil cooler with elec cooling fans too,i know because i Have them on my bike with the UC oil cooler.
After i installed the UC oil cooler with cooling fans & wards cooling fans my bike has been like a totally different much better performing bike motor wise along with also being significantly more enjoyable to ride in summer heat too compaired to the 1st time i rode it in real summer heat where the motor lost a lot of pwr/trq & throttle response,valves/lifters got noisy, oil pressure dropped into the gutter (esp @ idle),motor detonated, heat from motor was roasting me,hot starts like post fueling were slower/harder etc.
But all those negative issues many of us have experienced on our air cooled HD's in summer heat are now all problems of the past i no longer have to deal with on my bike anymore post installing the 2 cooling i mentioned above.

Harley offers an oil cooling fan for the new M8 oil cooled engines (not applicable on the water-cooled bikes). http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...oil-cooler-kit
