I recently replaced my 02 Road Glide with a 2016 RG Ultra. Put on Rinehart slip-ons and now want to open up the air with the SE High Air Flow cleaner. Everyone says I'll need to adjust the ECM calibration by adding the air, so I need to buy a tuner. I'll eventually want to add a cam and headpipes so the tuner needs to be able to accommodate those changes eventually. I don't want to mess with sensors when installing if I can help it. I'm not looking to get too deep into the tuning, just want the bike to run well after making some mods.
Harley now sells a 'street' tuner, which I understand limits the tune (and performance) to with EPA standards. Harley no longer sells their 'racing' tuner, but you can still find them. I've looked at power commander, V&H, power vision, fuelmoto, etc, but my trusted parts guy at the dealer tells me they've had a lot of trouble with aftermarket tuners on the 15's & 16's and don't sell them any more. He suggested trying to find one of the old 'racing' tuners but be careful of the aftermarket tuners for the 2016.
Does anyone have any experience or wisdom to offer on tuners on a late model touring bike?
All those tuners he said they are having issues with - I have not seen personally. My friend uses power commander and I run v&H - no issues work great. I suggest power commander if your going further than just stage one.
It's too bad that somebody you trust and respect would make a statement like that. I've had PC, TTS Master Tune, ThunderMax and now Power Vision tuners and never had any problems with any of them.
Welcome to the Forum and enjoy the new ride!
Another Vote for the FP3...... Easy to install and use the auto tune feature. ZERO issues and the bike runs great! If your not worried about a Dyno sheet to brag about and just care about a well running bike the FP3 is the way to go
12 SERG Fuel Moto Jackpot 2-1-2, Bassani DNT mufflers, Cycle Visions MoFlo AC, and Power Vision. Ran a couple Auto tune basic sessions, working off of a Fuel Moto tune. Bike runs great.
