I use Lyndall and have tried the gold and the z-plus, I stay with the z-plus because of the low break dust. The Golds had just as much if not more dust that OEM.

Break In the EBCs properly and there will be no noise. Been using them for years.
Pay more if you wish, but I see no reason to do so.
Everyone I know that try EBC stays with them.

I did a lot of research on brake pads. The reviews were very mixed on the Lyndall's. For every person who liked them there was another who went back to the stock pads. Guess the only way to know for sure is the try them.

A bit off subject, but I've heard of rear pads wearing fast from several folks. Mine last way longer than fronts because I use the fronts more. More stopping power with less effort (especially when you have dual disks) and much easier to change pads. Fronts don't lock up as easy on hard braking, either, though I realize you have to be careful on loose or slick surfaces. If you habitually use only the rear brake most of the time, you might not notice any difference with any kind of brake pad; even the cheapest pads have enough grip to lock a rear wheel. The big difference is noticed with the front brakes where you can really feel the action with your fingers and the pads have much more weight and traction on them. Even if you want to save money and buy cheap pads for the rear, you should consider spending a little more and putting at least the low end of quality pads like EBC or Lyndall on the front, or even OEM, most of us that tried them seem to like the big aftermarket brands better, but stock Harley pads are better than 19.95 ebay pads.

I put EBC front and rear on mine, I don't have any noise and they stop better than OEM.

EBC has a couple types for touring bikes. For best stopping power, EBC HH sintered FA409HH, otherwise V pads . I have used both, the HH do have more bite.

Proper seating/bedding of EBC pads is in this link. its not working now, maybe it will later:

======================

You can buy OEM HD brake pads at considerable discount price online @ surdyke, boardtraker HD etc bringing price close to aftermarket pads of = quality.

Thats what i do because not only are the the HD pads designed to work with HD disc design they also lasted 24k + miles on my bike which was good along with also running nice & quiet the complete 24k miles or so riding in mostly local mixed driving cond with never a squeek or sqauk out of them.

Same goes for the replacement set of oem HD pads i installed on my bike this summer that are doing fine so far with no noise or shutter from the brakes when heating up the pads & rotors after applying them mult times in a row in stop & go traffic.

The oem hd pads also seem to stop my bike very well too.

Thats what makes spending only a few bucks more at most for oem HD brake pads @ discount online worthwhile IMHO.

But some (not all) aftermarket pads dont always run as quiet on HD disc
design .

That in some cases leads to premature wear or worse yet overheating the discs if the aftermarket pad design is more aggressive possibly prematurely warping the discs vs oem HD pads that may run a bit cooler & or quieter due to not be quite as aggressive a pad design then some aftermarket pads.

I replace my pads when I replace my tires. Both seem to wear thin about the same time.
I am happy with OEM pads.
