I'd just hitchhike, that way you won't have to make these hard decisions.

I ride that route a couple times a year. My wife still likes Mickey so she flies and I ride. I haven't done it during turkey day, so traffic might be a hit-n-miss, especially downtown Orlando to Disney. It's a roller coaster going through there with all the construction, though, so be alert.

For me? Might be nice to ride in some warmer weather that time of year, but weather might be the deal breaker.

There's risk in everything we do.... Make up your own mind. It's a long way off, plan the ride and decide when the time comes.

Depending on time, get off the slab every once in a while, it makes for a more relaxing ride like on 301.

Admittedly I haven't researched this, but is all of I95 open after the hurricane?

I am glad you are able to make your way down and see your daughter. That, I am sure, is the most important part of this trip. Whichever way you decide to travel, you will have a blast. If you take the bike, take an extra helmet so you and your daughter can ride somewhere while there.

Something else to consider...I believe the NC toll passes will work in FL for you, you will just need to set them up. It may save you some time if you hit any tolls. I rode down earlier this year an paid nearly $20 in tolls. That wasn't really the issue. The issue was stopping the bike, digging out my cash, all while it poured rain. Not fun!

Enjoy your time together. Family time is fun time.

Weather, weather weather. That would the biggest factor for me.

As well the objective. Sounds like it's a "beat feet" trip, both ways. In which case the likes of a car or truck often make the trip better.

I95 is closed in NC from mile marker 13 to 53 and you end up taking 501/74 in order to bypass it. Just did the ride from Raleigh to Daytona for Biketoberfest and just got back yesterday. Also, there is a LOT of tree debris everywhere...crazy how many tree's came down directly next to the highway...so if you ride be careful. My thoughts after doing it....not sure it was that much fun riding down, even with having a riding buddy next to me the whole time...it was BORING as all hell....we trailer'd them back up because we just didnt see the enjoyment of riding them all the way back. If you have the choice of loading the bike in the truck and then going...so you can ride in florida but not have to beat yourself up on the most boring section of freeway ever....then I would go that route...
