When removing the primary chaincase cover (inner), do I need to remove the Jack shaft bolt? I presume that's the gear for the starter, at the top?
I tried loosening it, but it seems to be pretty damn tight and the socket just slips off the head of the bolt. Doesn't look like it had ever been removed.
Are you doing this without a factory service manual?! You need to remove the starter and if necessary to do so, that jack shaft is covered in that section.
Yes, bent back the tabs, no other way to get a socket on there.
I do have a manual, just didn't know what a jack shaft was, the manual doesn't show a picture of that.
Removed the starter bolts too.
