EITMS ... Engine Idle Temperature Management System.... This is a system where once the engine reaches a pre-determined temp the EITMS will turn off the rear jug fuel injector so the engine will act as an air pump and there by cool down.

When it gets TOO hot this happens when at idle.....if you give it any throttle it won't work.....ONLY at idle.......cools it down........can be turned off or on by dealer.....and you won't know if it's turned ON till it happens...or go to dealer and they can hook something up to find out for you......

RED KEY.......don't worry about it.....mine does that too......I don't have the security system but the light is still there on the dash.....

Your bike has the EITMS on it. It's a standard feature on that year model.

to enable or disable EITMS:

1. Turn on ignition switch & push engine off/run switch (right handlebar) to the "run" position (don't start bike).
2. Push throttle to roll-off position and hold.
3. After ~3-sec, the cruise indicator lamp will either flash "green" (EITMS enabled) or "red" (EITMS disabled).
4. Repeat procedure as needed to enable/disable EITMS.

This can also be done with the engine running, while stopped...

No need to go to the dealer.

it was a feature that was introduced in 07. if you have an 07 and want to enable/disable you will have to have the dealer flash it. they would have done it under warranty (enable and then disabled) once, but warranty is long gone for you. early 08 models also had to be dealer flashed, but later 08s were able to be enabled/disabled by the operator.

Just wondering why would you want to turn it off?

i wonder why anyone would want it on. it sucks ! bike sounds funny and acts funny with it enabled. maybe if i was stuck in traffic for along time i would turn it on, but no other reason to.

I turn mine off and on based on the weather and the situation. You get stuck on the freeway in stop and go traffic because of an accident on a 95 degree day and you'll be glad you have it.
