does the driver get more or less air hitting you with the vent opened or closed ? i really can't seem to tell the differance. i know the person on the back seems to think they get more air hitting them with it closed. what do you think ?
The only time I ever close it is when riding in the rain because the water swirls all over the place. Other than that I really don't notice much difference either.
I could tell the difference when I had the stock short windshield on it. With the vent closed I had a lot of wind buffeting....I just put a 7" on it and it is much better open or closed.
I only close mine it heavy rain too. The only different in wind I notice is slightly more wind buffeting, not wind in the face as much. That's with both the stock windshield and a 10" LRS recurve, but slightly less with the LRS.
I'm 5' 12". 10" LRS. The vent definitely makes a bit of a difference while open. When I have on any shorter shields like the useless Windsplitters etc, it makes no difference because of wind and buffeting everywhere. I strongly recommend the proper height recurve shield, fork deflectors and an open vent for rider comfort.

The concept works. Having it closed, there is this negative pressure that happens behind the shield/fairing. This can cause a vacuum affect, which can pull wind up from underneath. Opening the vent will help negate this pressure. This is why the passenger will probably tell a difference for sure. Everyone experiences different things, even on the same bike. Some chase the wind issue to no avail. I've had my own positive experiences with vents as well. We also sell shields for the Goldwing and we have a Goldwing. I ride it often. It's pretty comfy. But, the shield has a vent in it. With it closed, our recurve shield is as expected. Pushes the wind up and over you. Crack the vent and you can feel the wind going even further over you. Plus, any kind of slight pressure you may feel suddenly goes away with it. So, there is some real merit to the vent.
