So, will we need to carry 2 keys then, if we get a locking tank? 1 for the gas cap door, and 1 for the ignition, tourpak, and saddlebags? Expensive to get a lock that matches the key we already have?
When I got my 2013, the salesman told me the gas tank lock could be opened with any barrel key. It didn't have to be matched to the locks on my bags / pak. You could probably find someone with a lock that would swap you for the push button.

Quite right, I'd forgotten that. I bought a secondhand console, which came without a key and got one cheap out of the dealer's 'lucky dip' of secondhand spares.

You can find this at your Harley dealer. Fits all touring models, and uses your existing key to open it. I have one on my 2015 TriGlide.

Push-Button Fuel Tank Console Door Release-53842-00C

True. The stock fuel cap on the 14-16's usually became very hard to remove after a few months due to the cheap inferior plastic that swelled up from certain fuels. Harley came out with a revised fuel cap and the 17's all have it.

Anecdote here... I had a locking release as CMC suggested installed on my 2014 SGS when it was new. Damn thing NEVER released correctly. Lock would release but gas lid door would not spring up. Had to take a big cable tie with me to get the lid to open. Took it back to dealer twice and they said the locking release was not intended to work on my motor. I never could figure out why but couldn't get it to work either. Finally took it off and went back to the button release. That works fine. Strange...
