Default 2017 Ultra -vs- Ultra Limited:

Help me convince the wife. She's giving me the "we can save $1000 by just getting the regular one". My response is, but I'll spend well over 1K to put all of the other stuff on anyway...

For me, it's a no brainer. Any sales tips to convince her? I'm sold. Not her.

my boss just did this exact thing. He owned a 16 limited and was in a wreck and bike was totaled and as a replacement he went with the ultra and added what he wanted on the new 17. He ended up saving whole lot more money and has a better bike than the limited.

You don't say what year bike you're looking at. If you're looking for the CB you're out of luck for a 2017 unless you went with the CVO. I have a '14 Limited and IIRC the main differences were the CB (which is why I got it), heated grips, the tour pak luggage rack (wanted that also) and it was 'twin cooled' (which didn't matter to me). If I had bought the Ultra Classic I would have added the CB and luggage rack. If you want to remove the lowers, than you can't have a 'twin cooled'. Good luck and choose carefully. The CB can be added to either the 2017 Limited or Ultra Classic.

Totally off topic, but I just realized the stupid little "Ditto" emoji I just used is missing a "t." Oh well, back on topic........should you be looking at a 2016 left over, you could save a $1000 or more as well. Use that as a selling point.

$1000 is a $1000- but i gotta ask is that a hit on your wallet.

For some it is and could be a weeks pay, for others it is nothing.

IF you are financing a loan- take a look at the whole idea- a $1000 loaned can cost you much more over time, and have a knock on effect on your credit rating, and other loans.

I advise others to buy what you want when you can- that means saving until you have the resources for the toys. a bike is a toy.

If you are concerned about $1000 now, how about license, and insurance- and riding gear and...it all adds up very quickly.
and then you'll be looking at seats, shocks, bars which can quickly get you another couple of grand...and then performance work- a new set of pipes can be $600, and if you don;t like the sound, another set and another $600 ...many of the guys on this forum have been down that road.

i tell you what a bike which is paid for is alot more fun than a debt load.

in terms of the 2 models- the Limited is an option package, if the options offered make sense to you, then there is your decision
( the limited lacks saddlebags guards which i am a firm believer in)

Tell your wife, "If it doesn't say 'Limited' they'll think I'm your pimp."

Solved... next

A lot more money saved on a classic than a 1,000.00!

Seems to me that if you get the regular one or not. You are going to add stuff. Having said that I have a 2011 ultra limited. Plus added stuff. Love it.. If you have the money and you don't buy a different bike every 3 to 5 years get the limited Ultra. Go big or go home. First upgrade is the front and rear suspension. That will keep the wife happy! Happy wife happy life. Good luck.

Yeah, those are pretty much my thoughts... Minus the suspension. I hear they did really good on the 2017 suspension. My "plan" is to keep this bike for 12-14 years until retirement, then buy another to hopefully carry me until I croak. Remember though, I'm convinced, not her... That's the part I'm working on.

Yes, the CB is a PITA. I wish they'd have kept it. Looks like I'll add it later if not a dual-band ham.

Just tell the boss by the time you add on the stuff you want, it'll be the cost of the CVO. You can save about 12K by getting the Limited right off the bat.
