Hey everyone.
I just picked up a used 2012 Road Glide Custom with Matte Black paint.
Whats the best way to clean/care for this type of paint?
Always had Gloss paint bikes, never a matte finish and don't want to ruin it.
Ammonia free Windex for in between washing and getting bugs off my bat wing has worked for me and Joy or Dawn dish washing liquid. Only thing to know is don't use any kind of wax or car wash with wax in it. I have had the matte blue since 2007.
I guess if you were riding it like a dirt bike and squeezing as hard as you could on the tank with your knees. But I have never worn an area with my jeans. I also do not sit on top of the tank HaHa.
I use a foam glass cleaner in between washes and Always use a micro fiber cloth. None of those cheap ones either.
When it comes time to clean after a long haul. Just wet down bike wait 5 minutes, wet it down again with a little harder spray. Then I usually go over the whole bike with heavy spray (painted areas only). Then use a micro fiber cloth and soap and dry using a leaf blower.
Then use the chemical guys product above or Harley's denim paint stuff. Sometimes people make the paint seem like if you breath on it you're screwed.
Only micro fiber and a good denim paint protector. Do not scrub bugs on paint , soak bugs before cleaning bike. Some of them are gritty. Don't scrub the paint with a towel. It's not as bad as people say it is.
Of course this is my opinion but the Denim Paint is pretty damn easy to take care of then RIDE!

before hd came out with their own version of denim paint cleaner, they recommended window cleaner with ammonia. the only thing they said not to use ammonia on was the windshield.
I had a '14 Street bob for 2 years in Denim. Never rubbed any wear into the paint. I always cleaned it with ammonia free window cleaner for the paint. Always worked well.
I used windex and then purchased the HD cleaner. I had some gas stains on the tank and had to use the windex to get them off as it was stronger (in my opinon) than the HD cleaner. I use the HD cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean it all of the time now. I like the denim black on my Night Train.
