What about it? It needs to be disconnected. Removing the fuel tank is probably the easiest part of the job.

You can drain the tanks if it is too heavy for you. You don't have to. There is a quick disconnect on the line to the tank. Really easy to disconect. Just wear safety glasses so you don't get any gas in your eyes.

Yes. But not sure off the top of my head who. I just extended mine myself. I cut the wires in the middle on a staggered pattern. Add in the length of wire and soldered the ends. Then put shrink tubing on the solder joint, then an overall across the area. Staggered joints keep the width of the wire group the smallest.

The fuel line is a quick disconnect at the bottom left side of the tank. The fuel line and tank fittings seal when you pull them apart so a rag will catch the few drops that get out. On the newer models there is no crossover between the tank halves so it's a matter of removing the console, unbolting the tank, disconnecting the fuel line and lifting the tank off the bike.

Look on line at Dennis Kirk, J&P cycles or Eastern performance and I'm sure you'll have a couple different wire extension kits to choose from. I prefer a kit without the socket pins installed. It's easier to pull the wires in without pins on them. Then crimp the pins on after the wires are in the bars. Plus I stagger the solder joints so the wires end up different lengths. After I pull them in I cut them to an even length and crimp the pins on.

I found an inexpensive crimp tool on eBay for like $12. It's more time consuming than having a $300 crimp tool but the end result is the same.

I'm doing work to my wife's bike so I have the wires out of the bars right now. Here's some pictures. I bought 3/8" mesh wire sleeving on line that I put on the harness. It makes pulling them in a snap. No lube needed. They pull right in slick as a whistle. There's also a picture of the crimp tool I use.
