Namz has extension kits that make the job pretty easy. I buy the longest kit which makes staggering the connections is easy.

Throttle by wire extension:

Let me help remove the mystery. As mentioned it is very easy.

Remove the two bolts at the front, remove the two bolts at the rear, disconnect the two electrical connections, pull up the two vent tubes that hang down near the battery. Then there is a shinny silver sleeve where the line runs into the left bottom side of the tank. With a rag to catch any gas that spills push up on that sleeve while pulling down on the line. Presto when you let go of the sleeve it seal. Remove the tank. One of the easiest things you can do besides taking off the seat.

Good luck with your project.

Use the broom handle trick. Sit on your bike, and hold a broom handle where you want your bars. Have a buddy measure distance down to riser clamp. Also measure distance from ring finger to ring finger for width, and you can also tie a string to center of broom handle and measure from bottom of string to riser for pullback. Look for bars close to these measurements, or have some built to these specs.
Good luck, you'll love em'!

The easiest way is to go to a dealership or bike night. See a bike with apes and ask for permission to sit on the bike for fit.

Most people are willing to help. I did that for my exhaust, apes and backrest.

Dude you need to check out Hill Country Custom Cycles....every question you ask is there. Or....Wild 1 Chubby.

Both will give you exactly what you need. Do the job yourself, it'll make you appreciate it more. If you get into trouble, come back and ask. Someone can always unf@#k a problem someone else ran into.

ITS FREAKIN EASY.... if you have done it before....they make plug and play harnesses...virtually no re wiring needed if your bars have rounded 90's even easier....buying bars then paying someone $1000-$1200 to put them on is insane IMO

Agreed. I was debating 12''' or 14''. I found a guy on my church ride group that had 12'' apes so I asked to sit. After that, I knew I wanted to go 14in.

Having just done this project I can break it down for you.

Bars: Carlini 16" Gangster apes (1.5" thick) $350
Clamps: (Required for 1.5" thick bars) Carlini $150
TOTAL from Carlini $567

Wire extenders from NAMZ: $125 (TBW & Electronics)

CABLES/LINES: Magnum shielding Sterling Chromite II from direct cycle parts.
Clutch; $83.96
Lower Brake; $190.36
Mid Brake; $83.16
Upper Brake; $45.56
TOTAL $403.04 + tax & shipping

So at this point before labor or install I am well over $1,100.00

I contemplated doing the job myself because I, like another member here stated, have the tools, patience, and am comfortable turning wrench's on cars. Not so much on bikes. In the end I decided to have an indy shop install everything for $250.00. Stealership wanted to charge me $900-$1100 depending how long it took their tech. It was worth the $250 to drop everything off and have it done right.

If you any questions feel free to hit me up.

I ordered some Paul Yaffee Monkey Bars for my RGS, and plan to do it myself. Dealer wants 7 hours labor at 105 per hour.
