Default Handle Bar Change

I'm going to change my handlebars on my 2010 FLHX in the next few weekends. Do I have to remove the stereo to get to the back handlebar clamp bolts or do I just need to remove the ignition fairing cap? Thanks

You will need to loosen the fairing, and tip it forward, but it is not necessary to remove the radio. You do need to remove the ignition switch and the lower panel on the fairing too.

I recently read that someone makes better progress by not trying to take short cuts! If you're doing this for the first time it would help to have the FSM to hand.

I've been involved on changing handlebars on four Street Glides and have found it easier to just remove the outer fairing. Especially if doing internally wired bars.

I was going to remove the outer fairing as I thought I needed to anyway to unplug the throttle by wire connector. Can you get to the back clamp screws without removing the radio? Thanks

Save yourself the headaches. Remove outer fairing, remove the inner fairing bolts that attach the fairing to the front forks and at the bare minimum, tilt the inner fauring out of your way. The radio is connected to the inner fairing. You will now be able to get to the inside hex nuts. Be sure to place protective blankets where any painted or finished parts may get damaged. Good luck.
