Default Road Glide ride

Went down to the local dealer today and they let me take a Road glide for a putt. The salesman was great, he let me take it out for about an hour. What a kick in the butt that bike is, now I really can't wait to get my own, the hook has been set.

That's just how I felt. I had classics and ultras for years before I tried a roadglide. It would be hard for me to go back now.

I am looking to buy a HD touring bike by spring.
I am on the fence between the Ultra and the Road Glide.
I am 6'4" and found the Ultra "crowded" But I like the looks and setup of the Ultra.
I sat on a Road Glide and really liked the room.

How do the rides differ?

Terry,
I've been riding Eglides for quite awhile. I'm very curious about what you find to be different/better about the RG. No offence, but I use to think thier fairing was butt ugly. Lately though I've started to appreciate the look.

TheMark, I'm 6'4" myself and the only things I found on the Roadglide that needed to be different were 1) the windshield; it was about 3" to short, got a lot of wind in the face. 2) the mirrors; the mirrors arm was to short, that is unless you like looking at your shoulders. 3) the forks; the thing liked to dive like a submarine, I think some heavier fork oil would remedy that. Other than those three things it's a great ride.

LDrider,

I love the feel of the roadglide. No wind buffeting with the fixed fairing. The fairing and controls are further away from you making you feel like you got lots more room.

The Progressive springs I put in my forks to lower them ( 1 1/4in) makes it handle like a slot car (no sponge or diving). Screams around corners. I've also lowered the rear 1 1/4 in with a lowering kit. I am not tall so the feel of the bike for me is much better. I enjoy this bike more than any of the other harleys I've owned in the past. This is my 11th harley.

Stopped by another dealer today - went back and forth.

RG - UG - RG - UG - RG

Sure do like the looks of the Ultra - Sure do like the room of the Road Glide.

A common theme I hear "Once you get a Road Glide you will always have a Road Glide" & "I have had many HD's my Road Glide is my favorite" I have read that here and have heard it at the several different HD dealers.

I'm leaning towards the RG now.

I too was on the fence, however it was between the RG and RK. Ultimately went with the RG. I felt for the long haul it was a better bike. Pulling out of the dealership yesterday I immediately felt at home on the RG. A salesman told me it would take 300 miles to get used to the fixed fairing. WRONG, I didn't even notice it. In fact I did realize how light the steering felt, and by no means does it feel like an 800 pound bike.

Glad to hear that you were able to take the RG out for a ride. It's always nice to try before you buy and it sounds like you did the right thing. It's fun when a person gets a new toy and I hope that you really enjoy yours when you finally get it. Enjoy the ride
