What I used a few years ago on a cross-country trip was the MotoFizz MFK-059, which used to be sold by Aerostitch, but seems to be NLA in the US. It is a magnetic bag with four very strong magnets; I did not note any damage to the paint after my trip (though it is not a show bike and I do not treat it as one). What is nice about it is that it permits access to the fuel filler without moving it and it does not interfere with handlebar controls at full lock either way. It is useful for small items only; I suppose you could cram a very small rainsuit in it, but my reason for having it was to have ready cash (coins and bills) available for the Oklahoma turnpikes and for small miscellaneous items I needed without dismounting from the bike. I do see it advertised on numerous offshore websites.
