On a Rushmore, this is where the accessory plug is located. It's an 8 pin plug under the left side cover. No accessories (heated seat, lights, garage opener, etc) will plug directly into that 8 pin plug. You need an accessory harness (which HD has a couple options) to plug into that 8 pin connector. This is my accessory harness ready to be plugged in.

I opted for the $80 kit #71400106 which includes 2 switches for the dash as there are 2 parts of this harness I can hook accessories to and control each via the dash switches.

If no switches are required (like heated seat or garage opener), then the $24 harness is all that's required. If 2 accessories need to be plugged in (heated seat and garage opener), then the $24 harness plus the $20 splitter will power those accessories with the ignition switch.

Clear as mud?

So I installed the extender cable to the accessory plug today and ran it to the seat. How in the heck do you route the cable? I just ran it from the accessory plug then up between the side cover, over the frame to the seat. There must be a way to route the extender cable behind the left side cover box then up by the battery.

Why oh why HD didn't create a little pocket to fish this through, I'll never understand.
The only way I could sleep at night was taking the connector apart.
My post on that process here -------------------->

Fantastic, thank you! What a dumb design, I will likely do as you suggested at some point I think. I simply wrapped some electrical tape around the wire covering where it will rub on the frame. Can't see it, not ideal, in 4-5 mo when its 115 deg out I will fix. I wonder if that why the sheath has a split, to cut and splice.
