Ever wonder what a busted motor mount looks like?
Well here it is.
A riding buddy of mine asked a couple weeks ago...
"Why does your engine shake so much at idle"
he rides a road star (yamaha)
I say, "It's a Harley...it is SUPPOSED to shake"
Well, that go me to really noticing things...
WOW, I was doing a lot of shaking especially at idle. I mean, I thought I was riding a frame mounted engine.
Got to looking and sure enough the front engine mount (motor mount) was busted.
Part was around 50$ from the dealer
Took me about an hour to replace...Yep...even figured out the easy way to change the mount about 1/2 way through the process. I will provide detailed instructions if anyone requests.
If you THINK you have a busted motor mount, a quick look-see will definately show you. No guessing about this.
BTW..the busted mount DID NOT effect the way my bike handled. I had read a post or 2 in the past few weeks, about that.
Anyhow...here's the pic
Just thought I would post this for others benefit.
yep..
i have even started to use the oil filter box to create a trough that lets the oil from the filter run into the oil drain pan instead of on the front of the bike.

Great post and pictures jb. My question is can you easily see this by just looking under the bike? And, yes, please share your instructions for us all.
I noticed my front motor mount was broken when I was "cook booking" a 10K service on my '06 Ultra. Odd, but the bike ran smoothly with the broken mount.
With the new "improved" HD motor mount, the bike does not ride as smoothly as it did with the old-style, broken mount.
However, going back a fewyears whenthe mount broke on my '91 FXRS-Con and later on my '00 FLHT, it was clear that something had happened. Once new mounts were installed, both bikes rode like new.
