I listen to my motor, what a quaint idea, and shift as it needs to be...if you have to use a tach or a speedometer to shift with then you don't know how to ride..only thing you need a speedometer for is to make sure your not speeding, breaking the law,the sound of your motor will tell you when to shift. learn your bike, learn how it sounds, ride by the seat of your pants, feel the pull, after awhile you will be able to ride and shift without any outside help. i just posted on another thread --what rpm to cruise --
the reason for the 903 recall on the 2007 harley's have to do with riders going into 5th and 6th gear at too low an rpm and causing engine failures.
i always ,when the bike was new --used to enter 6th gear at approx, 75 and higher mph. the bike /motor called for this in the way it felt and sounded .
now ,after the recall it is different and it feels ok at approx 68 and up mph .
