I thought the 2003 Touring bikes used a TC88 motor and the 96ci didn't come out until 2007?

a and b are different bottom ends/ cases- that's what affects the mounting.
not the displacement
if you look at the cases ( esp up front by the oil filter)- compare a touring/dyna rubbermount A motor, to a Softail B motor.
you'll see the diff

The balancer B engines were introduced with the TC88, so all softail twincams use the different engine mounts and are not interchangeable with the A type.
