but looking around the only tyres I can find with the same or better load rating on my 07 RK are the Avon Venoms.
If you run loaded with a tyre of the wrong load rating you run the risk of a catastrophic tyre failure, and if caught whatever your equivalent offence is for 'Using a vehicle in a dangerous condition'
I would advise against ignoring load/speed ratings for your tyres.
That's why we all go up one size to the 140 on the rear when using Metzlers.
I'm with Gilbos on the Dunlop Elite 3's. As I understand it, these are earmarked for Gold Wings, not Harleys, and feature extended service life, increased wet traction, and from reports I've seen no reduction of dry traction over D402's. Some report 16k miles of wear, which is to my liking after this first D402 appears to be on its way to a 10k lifespan, which is unacceptable.
Over the past 12 years I've run only Dunlops, except for one trial of Avons on my '95 Dyna back in '96. My '96 RK went through 7-8 rear tires (D402's) while I owned it, and at first I would get 14k, later declining to 12k. The MU85's on this new SG are even worse, and I'm ready to switch. Based on reports here and elsewhere, I think Metzeler 880's will not be any better in the wear dept.
I just had Metzlers put on my Electra Glide (4,000 miles ago). They are night and day difference from the OEM crap. The front wheelfollowing the groves in the road is gone. Deals Gap running around 40MPH with no problems. Better traction all around. I here the Avons are alsdo good, although I can only say from expierience that you shouldent waste your money on the stock Dunlops.
Metzeler 880s are a very noticible diference over the stock Dunlops. The first ride I took on them I could tell how much better they griped the road. I have about 3000 miles on them now and am constantly impressed with their performance. You have to run 45 back 40 front in them to get good millage.
See that's what it's all about in my book. You put on different brand of tires and they are night and day for the better. People can have their mileage. I want better ride, more grip, wet and dry. So i get less mileage out of them, so what. It's all about the ride. Can't wait till I get mine on tomorrow.
From the Metzler web site. 130/90-16 M/C 67H TL ME880 FRONT - 38 PSI - 3.0 INCHES 140/90B16M/C REINFTL 77H ME880 - 44 PSI - 3.0 INCHES

RE: Which tires should I buy this time?
Went from Dunlops to Metzlers. Better ride, handling etc. Only draw back is they are a softer tire so mileage isn't as good. But going with the Metzlers to me was a step up. Have heard about these Dunlop 3's but can't comment on them

I thought mine already was 140. Couldnt find a 140 77H, found a Metz 150 71H though but still light on the load rating. I guess I may have missed it.
My Dunlop stockers are;
Front D402F MT90B16 rated at 72H
Rear D402 MU85B16 rated at 77H
I would like to fit a 150 rear but havent heard anyone who has actually done it yet.

I am courious of the same thing. I thought that I had read on here that a 150 Metzler will fit withno problem at all but I'm not 100% positive of that. If so,.when it comes time to change out rubber I would like to go with one of the 150mm ME880.
