Well alot of "good" ideas but let me let you in on a little secret. If you pull up to a gas station that accepts credit cards at the pump but they are closed, then.... okay don't tell.... put in your credit card.... and pump. That will work.

From: i live outside Omaha Ne on the Iowa side in the Loes hills, some great places to ride
Default RE: Gas can

i left Rapid City one morning (DAY TIME) and wanted to ride route 44 home. this is south of I-80 and a nice road no hurry and not much traffic, get to see the badlands for free and tour through the indian reservations. but one town i was planning on filling in (interrior SD) the gas station was closed and the first gas station i come to after leaving rapid city was 140 miles. at that time i was riding my 96 electra glide and did not get very good gas miliage. i had been riding conservatively and slowed even more for the next 40 miles to get me into the station in (wanblee). i sure was thinking of a gas can or bottle. i think i too a little over 5 gallons as i did have to switch over to reserve several miles out.
i like the gas pump ideas too though.

Those that don't tour will never understand carryin' spare fuel. Those of us what do, KNOW the value of some extry gas! Ah carry 4 of the MSR cannisters - have for 8 years now, an' won't leave home without 'em!

MOF, they're on the bike right now - we're in Clovis NM tonite, headed fer CO an' UT - ya'll play nice!
