To be honest, we'd probably use the tickets to wipe our dip sticks and I seriously doubt that Oklahoma would extridite us for 'failure to appear' for a Colorado equipment violation citation.
Neggy hit it 100%. Geting a warrant for not appearing in one state will lead to your drivers license being suspended in your home state. Take the advice given to you and just enjoy the scenery and the ride. If your pipes are illegal or whatever and you do meet up with an @sshat officer, be polite and curteous, and pay the ticket if you happen to get one. Personally, LEO's would be the furthest thing from my mind in the mountains of Colorado.
If you are heading up to Independance Pass (which is beautiful and twisty), be careful in the twin lakes highway 82 area. They have a state patrol barracks around there and all the new state cops are in that barracks paying their dues. Just beware - they are around. Remi
Quick story about what happens to someone who uses a citation they wereissued to wipe off their dipstick instead of paying it...
Once while working the road I stopped a trucker for speeding. He was hauling *** pretty good, but because I have a soft spot in my heart for professional drivers I wrote him a speed warning but issued him a $10 seatbelt ticket. He wasn't wearing one, and he admitted this to me, so seeing I was going to save him 4 points and almost $200, I issued this seatbelt ticket.
To make a long story short, he either tossed or just forgot about this $10 citation...
A few months later he was driving his rig through a southern state when he pulled through a state scale to have his rig weighed. The Troopers inside the scale wanted to see his log book so they invited him in. Upon verifying that his log was up to snuff they did a standard DL check on him. His status in Wisconsin, his home state, was suspended for failure to pay fines. That $10 seatbelt ticket that he ignored just cost him his job, his DL and a night in jail and his boss had to fly another driver in to pickup his rig.All this for not paying a $10 seatbelt ticket that had no points value...
Moral of the story. No matter what state you get a citation in, pay it promptly or all hell could break loose on your DL and life...and when you do pay it, pay it with a money order or bank check. Never pay citations with cash.
I've never heard of a motorcycle being cited for loud pipes. It would be unheard of here in Maryland. Plenty of straight pipes in these parts. Also, they may not extradite you, but you would most likely be booked in in order to serve you with the warrant and that could ruin a perfectly good weekend! Who in the world would want to drive around knowing they have an FTA warrant outstanding? If you got stopped for something little it would most likely turn into a felony stop. What a pain in the ***.
In Stillwater Minnesota it is a $185.00 ticket. A few jerks have made enforcement a priority for the locals.
I live in C/S Co area and work in the Springs. I beleive in loud pipes on bikes, rather be heard when not seen, never have had any problems. But a friend just got a ticketfor loud pipes, he's just going to pay the fine and keep his loud pipes anyway. I think it depends on the way you ride and the LEO's attitude. Drive safe and have fun, if it is in a month or so I may see ya on the road. Doc said to stay off my foot, so I don't think it would be a good idea to go for a ride yet.
