Yesterday I'm rolling with my guys (four bikes) and we decide to head out to Paddock Lake, WI for breakfast before we meet up with others for the days activities. We pull up to the restaurant and are hopping off the bikes and a Kenosha County Sheriff rolls up on us hard and fast. He starts telling us that the new ordinance is in effect COUNTY WIDE now. Any after market pipes will be cited. He said it doesn't matter if it is quieter than stock, anything other than OEM will get you a $160 ticket with a 10 day fix it ticket. You then have to go back to the issuing agency and be cleared. Failure to do so results in an additional $500 fine. WTF!!! The cop was cool and gave us a warning, said he was almost done with his shift and he rides as well. He also said DO NOT expect a warning from others. They are not supposed to give any. Zero tolerance. I understand he is enforcing the "law" but this is absolute bullsh!t. My one buddy asked about people from out of town since he is from Illinois, sheriff said it doesn't matter.
So for those coming up for the 105th, stay the F out of Kenosha County. Kenosha county is only about 20 miles south of Milwaukee and has a huge HD dealer right off I-94. (Ukes) My only fear is that my county (Racine) and other surrounding counties will be on the bandwagon soon since this is clearly a cash cow. Sorry for the long rant, but it is upsetting. I mean, the f@cking bikes are made right here for gods sake.
Most of these so called ordinances are simply departments enforcing the epa laws that have been around for quite sometime. If they use the epa law then they don't have to prove you have loud pipes they can write you up because the pipe doesn't meet epa standards. The manufacturers get around still selling these pipes by labeling them as for race use only.
Time to get out the vote. Elections in 3 months. Write letters to all the fkd up politicians. Are they doing the same to cars? Make sure they know you will vote aganist anyone that votes for these bills, federal and local, anyone, no matter what frikken party.

I'd call their bluff, they have to have a valid reason to pull this b.s. if that's the case. What's next? OEM tires and rims only? Headlamps? There has to be more the ordinance than what you were told. If an aftermarket pipe/muffler meets or exceeds whatever the EPA regulations call for as far as pollution, etc., I think it is up to THEM to prove that it is in violation.
Keep us updated and let us know when someone actually gets a ticket and what the outcome is. It's all about the $$$$$$, believe me.
Harley did a dam good job on the factory pipes on my Ultra. It is a pleasure to ride and can hear the stereo without problems. If I want to hear the exhaust, when the r's go past 3k, the motor sound then is very evident. I have no interest in changing to after market.
Thanks for the heads up! Probably would've stopped there on our way to the 105th. Hope this isn't an indication of an emerging national trend. Very cool of the Sheriff to give a verbal vice ticket.
