There is a seam/weld down the center of the tank under the console so I don't know how clean it would be, not to mention the wire harness for the fuel gauge.

I have a way of hiding the weld and the wire if that door can stand on it's own...can it?.

Just take it all off to see what there is underneath! That cover is retained on the console that you want to get rid off, remove the console and you have nothing to attach that part to. Underneath the console is a large black plastic moulding, which mounts the EFI stuff in the top of your tank, plus the filler neck. It's all pretty ugly - but then its covered by that console.....

You need to have some sort of console due to the wiring and vent tube running under it, not to mention that the filler tube sticks out of the tank, the console just sits over top of it.

If you just want a clean console like pictured above, the dash insert that says "Street Glide" "Road Glide" "FLHX" or whatever else is just an emblem. It can be peeled off, then you'll just be left with the fuel door graphic like you want.
