Default Tour Pak lights going out....

So I have recently acquired a 1999 Ultra Classic with a quick disconnect tour pack... I hooked it up and when I pull the brake lever the running lights and brake lights go completely out. When I let off the brakes the lights slowly fade back in. Ive been told it could be a ground issue but where should I start looking for where the ground may be bad at? I see a ground wire not hooked up but its for the CB radio antennae but Im not using it so theres no cable ran to it at all. Any help would be appreciated.

I would start at the QD plug, make sure it's compleatly connected. Also look at the wires that get coiled up when removed. Something may have got pinched and is not making a good connection.

Take a look in the bottom of the tour pak and see if the grommet is still in place and look to see if the wires may have rubbed through on the edge of the support plate on the inside.

All the lights in your tourpak have two wires, the black providing the ground. Disconnect your tourpak and do some basic tests on it, by itself. You can do that with a pair of probes off the bike battery, but take care not to touch them together! Work around the pins in the qd on the tourpak and see if the lights come on properly or as you described. If they all come on crisp and bright the problem is in your bike harness, not the tourpak. If they are no better then work your way methodically through the tourpak wiring, where a multimeter will be useful, to identify where there is bad continuity.
