HAVE 07 ULTRATHAT CAME WITH HARLEY HEADSET. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD 2ND HEADSET & OPEN FACE OR 3/4 HELMETS FOR THE WIFE & I.
I NEED OPINIONS ON THE HELMETS & HEADSET, IS THE HARLEY HEADSET WORK WELL?
DO ALL HELMETS ALLOW FOR HEADSET SPEAKERS OR DO I NEED TO BUY HARLEY HELMETS?
I have HD headsets in a 3/4 helmet. I'm not crazy about their sound or performance. I'm going to order the KBC half helmet with zipout headset from J&M.I like the idea of having the headset in a half helmet. As it is now, I never use them because i hate the 3/4. Check out J&Ms website. They have a ton of options for helmets and headsets.
I went with the HD set-up. Sounds good enough, not anticipating music center sound while on a bike. I have a "modular" helmet, the wife uses a 3/4.
I have found MOST helmets have the ability to accept the speakers and mike...according to what I have seen and read, they do not fit into anything less than a 3/4.
The Harley headset has the best mic and can be heard the clearest. The J&M by far has the best sounding speakers. You almost have to choose how you want to use them, passenger-rider either works well, if youre wanting to talk far and clear on the cb then Harley and if youre into music like I am then J&M only. What ever you decide, you very much need two of the same brand if you want to talk to your passenger, you'll quickley get agravated trying to adjustyour VOX controls etc. and will not likely find a happy median with different brands...meaning one headset with Harley and one with another company.
HJC makes a half-helmet w/speaker pockets in the neck curtain. Try them on first as I had a half helmet in the past that the speaker pockets were too low and I couldn't hardly hear them. The HJC CL21M puts the speakers directly over my ears. My lady friend complained about the speakers hurtingher ears after a while in a full face helmet. I bought her ahalf helmet like mine, she likes it better.
As far as the Harley headset, I'm happy with them. They aren't the best sound quality, J&M do sound better. But they are good enough for me anditsounds better than listening to music through the bike's speakers.
