99 road king swing arm issue

Actually,Even if that nut fell off,it would be no problem,as long as the axle is tight.

Actually,Even if that nut fell off,it would be no problem,as long as the axle is tight.
That nut is a locknut and should be tight on stud even when backed off. It should be replaced like you said if it's free spinning. However, nylock probably is not a substitue. OEM crimped locknut will last longer.

Let's start again! Should you be concerned? Yes! Why? Because that device is the means by which your rear wheel is aligned in the swingarm and also your belt tension is set. The fact that it is loose, as we can see, suggests that your wheel is out of alignment and also that your belt tension is not correct. It also suggests that whoever last worked on that part of your bike didn't know what they were doing. There is an identical device on the other side of your swingarm, what condition is that in?

If you can't get the OEM part, and you aren't confident in a nylock nut, you can source a Stover locknut...available in the Dorman line, might be sourced thru McMaster Carr as well.
