Just recently purchased a 04 FLHRCI with a HD hard bags. I received 4 keys with the bike. I assume I have so many keys due to the new bags but all the keys seemed to work. I have been able to lock the ignition without issue util today. The key goes in and I can push it down but unalbe to turn it to lock the ignition.
I have tried searching the forum but nothing specific to the road king ignition. Service manual does not provide any insight either. The other touring models seems to have alignment problems but not seeing that with rk models.
The plastic cover slips off the key "handle" exposing a 4 digit number. If all of the numbers are the same, then the keys are the same. With that key number you can buy new or replacement locks that will use the same key. I wound up with a total of 8 keys that way. Is your ignition lock stuck with all of the keys, or just the one you asked about? If the bike was stored out doors, perhaps a drop or 2 of 3 in ONE or similar oil might free things up. I'm confident others will say that is a bad idea, but if it doesn't work now, what have you got to lose? Should you need a new ignition lock, ordering one for your key number will eliminate separate keys for ignition and saddle bags.
One more thing, if you are really talking about locking the fork and not the ignition, what you describe happens all the time IF the fork is not fully deflected to the left. Pull it against the left stop and you should be able to engage the lock.
