brake light wiring
I use a 12v test light and tested the wiring near the fuse box. I'm guessing the red wire must have a short somewhere - between hand brake and the fuse box. Does that sound right?
Can someone tell me where that red wire runs to - - or where is should look next?
Thanks in advance.
Barry
Could be any number of things from a bad bulb, bad socket, damaged wiring, de
fective switches, loose connector, corosion on contacts, fuse, etc.
First place I'd check is bulb and socket with that test light and work my way back.
Oh, and invest in an FSM. They are invaluable in troubleshooting and tracing wiring.
R/Y is the Brake out of the brake relay powered by the O/V from the Brake fuse
BE is the Running lights
BN & V are turn signals
Enter your VIN and look at the Wiring Diagram under Vehicle Documents

it's pretty random. Sometimes, the brake lights work, sometimes they blink and go dark, sometimes they don't work at all. No work done recently.
I unplugged the connectors for the brake lights by the fuse box so I was only testing out the front half of the circuit. The test light matched those findings. I'm thinking the back half is ok.
Is there a way to test the brake light switch? Anything else I should look at?
Thanks again.
Just a guess, but I would check before & after the Facia/Converter Module.
