There is a little O-ring seal between the two shafts coming out of the trans, if that leaks it gives the look as if the inner primary seal is leaking.....Don't ask me how I know!

I know the o ring you are talking about it rides on the main output shaft I just put a new one in when I did the trans rebuild the fluid I found was on the primary side of the drive pulley I would think if it was that o ring it would have been leaking on the trans side of the pulley I hope

Thinking about it I think that o ring actually rides on the outer side of the output shaft rides inside of the trans main bearing

The bad part of that one is there is no way to save the transmission main bearing when removing the output shaft and removing the exhaust to get the trans out. I just did all that and don't want to do it again for a while it was bad enough pulling the whole primary down

I use redline synthetics that each fluid is a different color (oil, primary, transmission) . Easy to tell where your fluid is coming from.

I do believe it was the inner primary seal leaking but I did them both anyway I also believe the smell and discoloration of the primary fluid was from the new set of Kevlar clutch plates that I installed while I had it torn down.

I don't think so scooter. One drip is too much my bike has never dripped in 42000 miles
