I'm posting an update to this thread. I went with Ohlins HD159 shocks. I have a friend that has a suspension company up here in Canada. He's one of Canada's best flat track racers and a very knowledgeable suspension guy. He's an Ohlins dealer, and can service them when the time comes. His price was better than any I had seen, and far less than Pro Action, so it was a no brainer for me to go this route.

How have those shocks worked out for you?

1. Everyone mentions Howard. Well I talked to Howard... That's an experience in it's own, but what happens when Howard isn't in the business anymore?

2. Pro-Action.. Lifetime Warranty no cost at all if they ever need to be rebuilt and NO rebuild "schedule" there is a cost for Ohlins rebuild and there is from my understanding a rebuild schedule.

3. Pro-Action USA Product

Again, just me and my choice but I love my Pro-Action. I talked directly to George, but bought them through DK Customs.
I feel the same way. I am sure Ohlins, Legion and Progressive are all good as well. But when I needed help these guys were close by and their service was fantastic. It is hard to me to imagine any brand could out perform them! Ride and Handling are simply unbelievable. Nice folks as well with a 40 year track record. George is a real deal Motorcycle guy, his wife is super and the folks with them like DJ and others are nice folks. I would encourage anyone to call and speak with them before buying any brand. If you are in their area you can go by and take a test ride for yourself. You will be glad you did.

The difference from stock to these is not even close. I set the sag at the minimum and rode with the initial rebound setting from Ohlins for a few hundred miles and felt they were stiff, a lot better than stock, more controlled, just stiff. I have played with the set up a bunch of times and find it amazing what 1 click on the rebound adjuster can do. The sign of a quality shock is how much it can change with one small adjustment.
If you are like me, and don't have a passenger often I set the sag for me, and I don't want to adjust it for a passenger. I can adjust for a different weight by speeding up or slowing down the dampening and that can be done without removing the saddle bag.

For some this may be too much adjustment, and they may prefer the model below where you can only set sag, but I like having the fine adjustment.
I'm sure I would have been happy with the model below as well, but as I said in a previous post, I got a great deal on these shocks. I was more afraid of spending a fair amount of money and not being happy with the shocks, or spending a little more for some of the best shocks out there .

As mentioned earlier, Ohlins is a global firm. If their dealers are able to perform service on these they will. Otherwise, Ohlins has a USA distribution and factory center in western NC that can handle the work. Howard is a full service dealer.

We are very happy to be working with Pro-Action on their shocks for HD's.

The reports we get every week from Customers that are astonished at the improvement in Ride Quality continues to confirm what we learned in our testing of almost two dozen popular shocks (including Progressives and Ohlins)...Pro-Action Street Series Shocks out-perform shocks that cost even 50% more!

See Report HERE.

True that! We were amazed in our testing of the Pro-Action Shocks (see Report Link above) ...Just one click of the bleeder (damper) makes a significant difference in the ride.
