Had to look up what a punk was.... lol. That will work. Cigarette or other smoke source works too. Usually exhaust leaks are pretty easy to hear when you have your head down there. Usually if nothing has moved or Jarred the header they don't just developed a leak.
Looking to change exhaust to v&h eventually but I I want to check for leaks which brings up a question of best way to check for leaks,I used to believe it or not hold a punk up to the flange and give it some throttle and watch smoke from punk plus garage smells funky later
guess im gonna have to do some homework now. Gotta know what a punk is oyher then some smart as$ snot nose kid.
Soak the original nuts in Liquid Wrench for a few day, remove one old nut - each pipe - one nut at a time, install brass nut using high temperature anti seize, torque to ?? inch pounds. The repeat on the same pipe's other nut.
What the conscientious on that mod?
I can agree, don't "screw with it" if it is not broken, but as a known XL issue, again I like the preventive maintenance idea of brass.
Don't forget to only torque when cold.
Never check torque when things are warm or hot.
If you do check when warm or hot there is a risk of things loosening up.
New exhaust nuts are also recommended.
