Default Ignition key removal on 06 SG

Im trying to install my cruise control but cant get the ignition key off (per instructions) toaccess the switch panel! It says to move key to "access", "push key down and push the button on the underside of the key","turn 60 deg. counter clockwise and pull off". I have tried everything and no go.

Is there a trick or am I justan incompetant mechanic? LOL Ivedone all myown add on's so farand this one was going smoothly until now!

Any help appreciated.

Yes, I remember somebody saying there is a trick to it but I don't remember if it is turning the key 60 deg or the switch 60 deg but I think it had something to do with that. I'm sure someone will post shortly.

Turn the ign SWITCH to Acc., put KEY in and find push button on the bottom left side of the SWITCH,while pushing button turn the KEY counter clockwise. It will turn past the unlock tab and will release the switch.

For what it's worth, the service manual says to turn the switch to "fork lock", not "Access". I think it it gives you a little more clearance to the button that way.

It also looks like you're saying "key" when you mean "switch" in your original post. That might just be an accident, but if you're getting the two confused I can see how the instructions wouldn't make much sense.

It is really very easy once you get the hang of it, and you can pull it off in one second. You don't really need a screwdriver, as stated in the manual, if you have small fingers and can push the tab under the switch with a finger while turning the ignition key CCW. Start at the Lock position, push up on the tab with a finger or small screwdriver blade, turn the key CCW about 60°, and pull the switch **** up and out.

Make sure you remember the correct position of all the switch parts for reassembly and don't attempt to move the switch to any other position unless all parts integral to the **** (2 collars and a nut) are in place. I made the mistake of inserting the switch **** without the collars and nuts by mistake to move the switch off Lock to move the handlebars, and got the internal mechanism out of whack. I thought I would have to trailer it to the dealer, but using a flashlight and flat-blade screwdriver managed to get the switch mechanism back in alignment. There are two moving parts to the switch mechanism inside the shaft hole, and if they get out of alignment the **** won't fit properly and the switch won't work.

The point is that you may need to insert the switch **** in to unlock the handlebars to re-attach the fairing switch cap, as it is a tight fit. Just make sure everything is in place (collars and nut) before attempting it.

I love this place.

I've been wondering how to get that off for a while.
