Any parts smart folks out there that can confirm the derby cover for a '15 thru '17 would be the same on a Street Glide? Conflicting info from dealer.....
Ok.... will the same derby cover fit on a '15, '16 and '17 Street Glide?
Looking to have a custom derby CNC'd for me and a couple of my friends and we have '15, '16 and '17 Street Glides respectively. Hoping 1 template will work for all.
Ahhh, ok that makes sense to me now, sorry for the initial confusion lol.
After looking on the HD website and trying to cross reference part numbers and such between those bikes, the main issue is going to be what outer primary cover is on all 3 bikes.
The narrow primary cover came standard on the touring lineup for 2016 and seems to carry over for touring models in the 2017 lineup. It seems for 2015 the narrow primary cover was only on the Ultra Classic Low and Ultra Limited Low, unless it was installed as an option/mod (since they are available to switch out).
Derby covers between the regular primary cover and the narrow primary cover are not interchangeable (according to HD). So, it looks like you'll probably be ok using the same template for the '16 and '17, but will need a separate template for the '15 if it doesn't have the narrrow primary cover on it (compare the "hump" that sticks out past the clutch area).
You could always get the three of you to meet up and swap the stock derby covers around also to find any differences. I'm guessing it's a gift though and you want it to be a surprise?

Here is the deal some 2015 bikes have the narrow primary, all 2016 Touring bikes have the narrow primary. The narrow primary cover in larger. Than the old standard primary.
No this was not a clever plot by HD to sell new parts. The narrow primary started out on low models it worked out so well they made the chnage.
You're asking if the same derby cover will fit all three of those bikes, which you can answer, in part, by checking an on-line parts website. From this we can see that the '16 and '17 use the same cover, which leaves us with the '15. I suspect that simply has a different design around the rim, but you can trial swap covers between two of the bikes.

Actually Graham, they did a re-design of the outer primary that necessitated a completely different cover, which is a bigger diameter, I think. Good advice on the online parts fiche, but if everyone knew that how could we keep our post count growing? haha
its very simple..... a derby off a regular primary will fit all..regular primaries, a derby off of a narrow primary will fit all narrow primarys regardless of model

except for the 3-bolt ones... and the oval ones...
