I have a few I swap out on my Special. A 14" Long Ride Shield does great with wind, but I like the look of my 6.5" Memphis Shield. The stock windshield is only for looks IMHO
I had a 12" Klockworks Pro-Touring shield. Liked it a lot, then got the 14" LRS and liked the wind protection even more. As for height, keep in mind, if you are looking at changing out the seat, this will affect the height of the windshield. With the stock seat, the 14" LRS was right at eye level for me (I'm 5'10" too), but with my Ultra touring seat which sat me up 1" or so, I now see further over. Something to consider.
14" Freedom Shield is what I have. I'm 5'10" and I love it. I've had LRS and it worked OK but the distortion in the flip part of it was terrible. Freedom shields have no distortion in the flip up and are quality all the way. I have a stock seat and I look over the top of it. My wife didn't like the LRS in the back but she is happy with the Freedom. We do mostly touring, so that's what this is great at.
Another vote of the Freedom Shields. I'm running a 14" currently and just received my 13" yesterday. I've tried KW and a buddies borrowed LRS, couldn't get past the distortion in those shields. Don't have that problem with the Freedom.
